FAQs
What is a hackathon?
Hackathons can be a great way for people to learn new skills,
collaborate with others, and build something creative in a
short period of time. They can be especially beneficial for
people who are interested in technology, as they provide an
opportunity to work on projects that involve programming, design,
and problem-solving.
Participating in a hackathon can also be a fun and exciting way
to challenge oneself and push the boundaries of one's abilities.
It can be a great opportunity to network with other people in the
industry and potentially meet future colleagues or mentors.
Additionally, hackathons can be a great way for people to gain
recognition for their work and potentially even land a job or
internship. Many hackathons are sponsored by companies, who may be
looking for talented individuals to join their teams.
Do I need experience to participate?
All you need to participate is an interest in coding! You can attend as a beginner, as we'll be hosting several workshops to teach you many different things. Already have a lot of experience? That's great! Go sign up at the bottom of this page.
What should I bring?
To participate in a hackathon, you will typically need to have a computer and any necessary
software or tools required to complete your project. This may include a code editor, a
programming language, and any libraries or frameworks that are needed.
You may also want to bring other supplies such as a charger and any other electronic devices
you might need, as well as any personal items you will need during the event.
In addition to the practical items, it can also be helpful to come to a hackathon with an
open mind and a willingness to learn and collaborate with others. Hackathons are often
fast-paced and intensive, so it can be helpful to be flexible and adaptable.
It is important to carefully review the specific requirements and guidelines for the
hackathon you are attending to ensure that you have everything you need to participate. The
hackathon organizers may provide more information on what to bring or what will be provided
for participants.
I don't know what to make, what should I make?
You can make something using any technology or language!
Here are some examples of what you can make:
A mobile or web app
A software tool or utility
A hardware prototype or device
A machine learning model or data visualization
A game or interactive experience
You can also search up other hackathon projects that people have made for inspiration (don't
just copy their idea though)!
How much will it cost?
MountainHacks will be free to attend! We’ll have meals, snacks, and beverages onsite at the hackathon, as well as swag, prizes, and fun mini-events, including workshops.
